EYE ADAPTATION MODELING ORION This is a screenshot of the night skies towards the north as seen on an October evening from South Africa. It shows the constellations of Orion and Lephus, with some of the major stars marked. The shot was taken after 20 minutes so that they eyes where very well dark-adapted. The sky-dome includes a list of the 3000 brightest stars as seen from earth. There position, as well as intensities. We will see later on how these intensities together with they eye model determines when the stars are visible or not. Also note that Orion stands on his head when viewed from the Southern hemisphere. This may be a very unusual view for someone from the northern hemisphere who is familiar with the constellations.
